Kihei is a gorgeous 10-mile stretch of coastline in South Maui. Its central location and ever-sunny weather make it a popular destination for a Maui getaway. Kihei can be broken down into roughly three main areas: North Kihei, Central Kihei, and South Kihei.

1. Family-friendly ground-floor condo
This coastal chic Kihei condo rental is the perfect place to stay for families. It has an open open-concept living area with a kitchen, three bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning. Outside, you’ll find two private lanais.
It’s a ground-floor corner condo in Building 5 of the popular Kamaole Sands Resort. The pool and jacuzzis of this condo complex are just steps away and Kam III Beach Park can be found just across the street.
This tastefully appointed condo is one of the most spacious of all Kihei VRBO listings.
2. Beachfront South Kihei condo
This modern condo offers some spectacular ocean views over South Maui. With 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and an open-plan living room with a comfy sofa sleeper and a well-equipped kitchen, this spacious rental condo offers plenty of space for families to enjoy. The beachfront lanai offers front-row seats to sunrises and sunsets over South Maui.
The Mana Kai condo resort can be found at a prime beachfront location in South Kihei, right adjacent to Keawakapu Beach. This sprawling beachfront complex includes a heated saltwater oceanfront pool, an oceanfront yoga studio, a gym, a grocery store, and a water sports rental desk. The acclaimed Merriman’s restaurant group will be opening an oceanfront farm-to-table restaurant in the resort soon.
The upscale South Maui resort destination of Wailea is situated just south of this Kihei beachfront resort complex. A good half an hour’s stroll is all it takes to reach the Wailea Beach Walk and The Shops at Wailea.
3. Upscale ground-floor condo
Next on our list of vacation rentals in Kihei is this gorgeous ground-floor condo. It features two bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open-plan living area with a kitchen, and an amazing lanai with unobstructed garden and ocean views. The condo comes generously stocked.
The condo is located in the small-scale beachfront Maalaea Surf Resort. It includes two swimming pools, several grills as well as a shuffleboard, pickle ball, and tennis courts.
Contrary to what the name suggests, the Maalaea Surf Resort is not located in Maalaea but in North Kihei. In fact, popular Sugar Beach is just steps away. Also within walking distance are the local Farmers’ Market, the legendary Ululani’s Shave Ice, the Sugar Beach Bake Shop, and an ABC Store.
Note that this condo welcomes couples and kids 16 years and over.
4. Family-friendly Kihei Airbnb with a vintage feel
This picture-perfect Airbnb in Kihei must be one of the most cheerful South Maui condos. With its white decor and blush-pink and pastel touches, it’s a breath of fresh air. And lovely touches such as the gallery wall, the record player, and the ukeleles give it a very homey feel too.
The pretty Pray for Surf condo is also very well equipped. There are two bedrooms, an open-concept living area with a kitchen, and a lanai with a patio swinging chair. In addition, there are board and card games as well as Apple TV. Families with little kids will appreciate the range of baby gear that’s available on request.
Air conditioning is available in the main living room of this Kihei Airbnb. Ceiling and tower fans are in place to cool the bedrooms.
This Airbnb rental is located on the second floor of the Kihei Garden Estates Resort. Guests have access to the pool, hot tub, grills, and verdant courtyard. Lipoa Street Beach is just a short walk away.
5. Two-story Kihei condo with amazing ocean views

Enjoy the relaxing vibe of this modern condo with its high-end finishes. There’s a fully equipped kitchen, a rainfall shower, and a Ritz Carlton Cal-King mattress for the ultimate comfort.
This condo is located in the Sugar Beach Resort. It has a lanai with a view over the resort grounds and the ocean. It comes with access to the heated pool, the large hot tub, the onsite gas BBQs, and outdoor dining areas.
Location-wise, North Kihei is as central as you can be on the Valley Isle. This immaculate condo is proof that Kihei is indeed one of the most affordable places to stay in Maui.
7. Top-floor oceanfront condo
This gorgeous 2-bedroom condo has been beautifully designed. From the living area to the kitchen and from the bedrooms to the bathrooms, the impeccable design gives the entire rental a luxurious feel.
Outside, you’ll find a spacious beachfront lanai. Take in the endless views from the comfort of your home away from home. In winter, you can even see the whales breach from your balcony.
This rental is part of the smoke-free Kauhale Makai resort. Guests have access to the manicured garden-like grounds, adult and children’s pool, putting green, shuffleboard, and outdoor BBQ grills.
You’ll find plenty of restaurants and markets in the direct area.
8. Beachfront ground-floor condo
Next on our list of condo rentals in Kihei is this stunning ground-floor condo. The coastal-chic style and wide range of amenities, including split unit air conditioners, give it a homey feel.
A spacious lanai is the icing on the cake. What a wonderful place to enjoy breakfast or a sunset dinner.

This remodeled condo is located just steps from the beach. Just cross the grassy lawn and you can feel the sand between your toes.
9. Cozy ground-floor Kihei condo

10. Adults-only condo at a central location
This elegant retreat is located just half a block from the beach. It has two bedrooms and two full bathrooms as well as a spacious open-plan living area with a fully equipped kitchen. The bedrooms are equipped with bamboo matrasses. There are two lanais, both of which offer garden views.
This rental is part of the Kihei Alii Kai condominium resort, which is located just uphill from the coastal strip. Guests of this condo enjoy access to the Olympic size pool, jacuzzi, sauna, tennis courts, pickle ball court, and BBQ area.
The resort is located across the street from Kamaole Beach Park I & II Beach. It’s a very lively area with plenty of restaurants and shops on your doorstep.
Note that the master bedroom is equipped with air conditioning, but the second bedroom is not.
11. Beachfront Kihei Airbnb at a central location
This stunning beachfront condo is what Kihei living is all about. Inside, you’ll find one bedroom, a bathroom, and an open-plan kitchen and living room with a comfortable sleeper sofa.
Thanks to its prime locations, guests can just fall asleep to the sound of the ocean. The modern beach-inspired interior seamlessly connects to the lanai which offers the most amazing unobstructed beach views.
This VRBO in Kihei is part of the small-scale Hale Kai O Kihei condo complex which is set in a tranquil residential street. Guests have access to a pool, grills as well as a shuffleboard area. The Times Market, the Azeka Shopping Center, and an open-air craft market are just around the block.
12. Family-friendly oceanfront condo in South Kihei
Last but not least on our list of condo rentals in Kihei is this beautiful 2-bedroom rental. Its stylish and refined decor will feel like a home away from home. The views from this third-floor condo are amazing. You can enjoy them from the living area, the lanai as well as the master bedroom. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves? Check! Watching whales breach from your lanai in winter? Check!
Note that this condo is not equipped with air conditioning but there are ceiling fans in all rooms. That’s in addition to the ocean breeze that cools these Keawakapu vacation rentals.
This condo is part of the Kihei Surfside Resort. It sits on the northern side of Keawakapu Beach. Guests have access to the heated oceanside pool, the grassy lawn, several BBQs, and various beautiful seating areas with panoramic views.

Which part of Kihei is best to stay?
Here’s a comparison of the three Kihei areas: North, Central, and South Kihei.
South Kihei
My personal preference is South Kihei for several reasons. One, it’s close to Wailea with its many family resorts, fine restaurants, and upscale boutiques. Then again, it’s just as close to the more laid-back shops, cafés, and restaurants of Kihei. So, essentially, South Kihei offers access to the best of both worlds.
Another big win for me is that South Kihei is tucked away in a quiet corner of the lively town. It brings you within walking distance but still offers a pleasant escape from the crowds.
Last but certainly not least, South Kihei has a more tranquil beach setting with excellent snorkeling and swimming opportunities. I certainly like the Kam beaches too but these tend to be much more crowded. Keawakapu Beach is also home to the Kihei Boat Ramp where many snorkel tours depart from.
Central Kihei
Central Kihei has its charm too but, as I mentioned, it’s just busier. If lively is what you’re looking for, then you’ll love this part of Kihei.
The Kam beaches are among the most well-loved beaches on the island and make for great snorkeling beaches. Plus, they are lifeguarded which is a rarity in Maui. Central Kihei is also a great place to take a surfing lesson.
There’s also Kalama Park which is the activity hub. It’s where you’ll find all kinds of sports courts and fields, a roller-skating rink, a skatepark, you name it. Restaurants, cafés, and shops galore in Central Maui too.
North Kihei
North Kihei is the area between Maalaea and Kalepolepo Beach Park. It’s mostly known for the beautiful Sugar Beach with its views of the West Maui mountains.
But, to me, North Kihei feels less part of Kihei than South Maui. The choice of restaurants and shops is also rather limited.
Then again, there’s a long inviting stretch of beach that’s perfect for long walks on the beach and for jogging. Water sports enthusiasts will indulge themselves in the various activities on offer. Snorkeling is possible but only for seasoned swimmers since the reef is located off-shore. While the mornings are still okay for swimming, the afternoons tend to be too windy.
The big advantage of North Kihei is its central location, making it perfect for day trips and activities around the island.
