Luxury home rentals in Maui FAQ
It sure is! The chic coastline of Maui is dotted with luxury resorts and villas. Add to that a selection of fine-dining restaurants and a range of private tour options and you can rest assured that Maui is heaven on earth for the most discerning travelers.
Wailea and Kapalua are home to the most luxurious resorts in Maui. As a result, these areas are often labeled as the most luxurious Maui destinations. But there’s an important nuance to make. While Wailea and Kapalua feature a range of exclusive Maui resort rentals, you won’t find many upscale residential villas here.
In Kihei and along the Napili coast, you might find some beachfront residential villas. Since these are located in hotel zones, condo resorts are never far away. So, even though the property itself may be set in a tranquil garden, the direct surroundings of the property will most likely be a lively resort area.
Some of Maui’s most affluent neighborhoods are just outside the main tourist areas. These wealthy homeowners prefer to live in a more private, gated location away from the crowds.
Other tranquil residential areas can be found in North Shore Maui and in the Kula mountains (where Oprah’s holiday estate is also located).
If you’re looking to explore more of Maui, then I’d strongly recommend renting a car. My go-to partner is Discount Hawaii Car Rental. Their booking process is effortless, with no booking fees, prepayment, or cancellation penalties!
Maui is dotted with vacation homes and rental condos. So, you might wonder what it is that sets the Maui luxury vacation rentals in this list apart from other properties on the Valley Isle.
While it’s hard to define the exact characteristics of a luxury home rental in Maui, the following qualities are my minimum standards for labeling a vacation home as luxury.
I always look for properties that have been recently updated or redecorated.
A Maui luxury vacation rental should come with premium finishes. Think top-quality furnishings, superior kitchen appliances, and high-thread-count bedding (although the latter isn’t always specified in the listing).
The outdoor area should feature a gorgeous swimming pool, a premium BBQ grill, and plenty of seating arrangements including lounge chairs with generous padded cushions and tiki torches for that ultimate Hawaiian feel. The luxury rental preferably comes with direct beach or ocean access.
A Maui luxury home rental should include the service of a property manager or concierge to arrange private tours, dinner reservations, a private in-villa chef, massages, and more.
Then there’s the matter of personal taste. I’m not a fan of shower curtains and carpets, so most of the homes featured will reflect that.
While you could also consider location as a defining factor for many holiday destinations, it doesn’t really come into play in Maui. As you can see in the next point in this list, you can distinguish two distinct types of luxury vacation rentals in Maui that are very different in terms of location.
